Duck and Pringles Post Office was opened 13 June 1870, Jacob Duck postmaster. Re-named Monte Creek Post Office 1 October 1896.

"In 1863 Jacob Duck, a Englishman on his way out from the Cariboo gold rush, bought the ranch here from a Mexican called "Monte". The story goes that the Mexican was wanted for horse-stealing in the United States, believed that the law was about to catch up with him, and was in a hurry to sell. For only a few hundred dollars worth of gold dust, Duck bought the ranch which recently sold for over half a million dollars."
