Chu Chua (Station) adopted 11 August 1921 on Geological Survey publication #1945 (copy in 1921 Summary Report, Part A, p.72), as labelled on BC map 1EM, 1915. Form of name changed to Chu Chua (Post Office & Station) 3 March 1955 on 92P. Form of name changed to Chu Chua (locality) in the 1977 Supplement to the 1966 BC Gazetteer.
Chu Chua Post Office was opened 1 October 1907, named in association with the nearby creek; closed 30 December 1967 (at the time of closing, post office was situated on Lot 938).
chu chua means "little rivers" ("Les nomes indiens de mon payes", Father Joseph E. Guinard, OMI, p.40)
From the Indian, hlooh-hlooh-l-choo-áh, meaning "a creek rushing among rocks" (Father Jean-Marie Le Jeune, OMI)
