Aspen Grove (Post Office) adopted 6 October 1936 at 49º53' - 120º38', as labelled on BC map 2B, 1914. Application altered 14 August 1952 to reflect new location of Post Office on L1855. Identified as Aspen Grove (Settlement) in the 1966 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Aspen Grove (locality) 31 May 1982.

"Named on account of the number of cottonwood trees - also known as wild aspen - in the vicinity." (letter from W.A. Dodds, postmaster, 1905) [note: the name of the tree, Aspen, is derived from the french "asperare", to breath, a reference to the leaves that quiver with the slighest breath of air.]
