References to Blackpool that document the origin of its place name
Black Pool (Post Office & Railway Station) adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, located on the east side of the North Thompson River opposite Mann (Blackwater Creek), as labelled on BC map 3J, 1914. Form of name changed to Blackpool (settlement) 27 March 1963 on 92P/9, applied to settled areas on both sides of the North Thompson River. Form of name changed to Blackpool (community) in 1977, with population now concentrated on the west side of the North Thompson River, about 2 miles north of Mann Creek.
It is not known if the name refers to a deep pool in the river here, or is associated with the nearby Blackwater Creek (since changed to Mann Creek), or if it was named after Blackpool, England.
Named by J. Miller for the English seaside resort.
