Douglas Lake (Post Office) adopted 7 April 1949 on 92I/SE, as labelled on BC map 1EM, 1915. Form of name changed to Douglas Lake (community) 15 December 1982. See also Douglas Lake (lake).
"...the Douglas Lake Post Office was opened 1 November 1884 - the second post office in the valley. Successive managers of the Douglas Lake Cattle Company have held the position of postmaster to date. ...Douglas Lake Cattle Company [is] one of the largest cattle ranches in Canada; in addition to the ranch offices, barn, bunk houses and other buildings related to the cattle industry, Douglas Lake has a general store, school and air strip. John Douglas (Sr.) passed away in Cloverdale, California 18 March 1889 of tuberculosis."
