Fosthall (Steamer Landing) adopted 2 August 1950 on Columbia River Basin manuscript #9. Form of name changed to Fosthall (locality) 9 June 1960 on 82K. Coordinates adjusted 23 November 1990 on 82K/5 when location shifted coordinates 50 21 00 - 117 56 00.

Fosthall Landing located on the north side of the mouth of Fosthall Creek prior to flooding of the Arrow Lakes. CPR steamer service discontinued per Timetable #64, 20 April 1954. Ferry service from the same location operated by Interior Tug & Transport Co (March 1955). This is a log sorting dump; loggers working here but no year-round residents (1959 field check). Regional District advised that a few people live here and the name should be retained, however the centre has shifted from Farm Bay about 1km southward to the south side of Fosthall Point (February 1979). Ferry across to Cape Horn is located a further 1km south.

Gets its name from the clerk in charge of the post maintained here in the early nineteenth century by the Hudson's Bay Company.
