Renata (P.O. Station and Str. Lodge) adopted 6 October 1949 on 82E/8 as labeled on Reference Map 1ER "Kootenay, Osoyoosm, Similkameen Land Districts - Land Recording Divisions" (1915) and as listed in 1930 Gazetteer. Renata (Locality) reconfirmed 11 March 1971 to reflect feature type change. Post office closed 31 March 1961.
"The land at the mouth of Dog Creek was once owned by three partners, Sandy Gaston, Joe Burmet and a French-man named Baptiste. After the death of his partners, Baptiste was left alone and one night he saw Sandy's ghost. Afraid to remain there longer, he sold the property to a real estate man named Nash, who laid out the townsite which was named Renata, meaning 'reborn.'" (p. 145)
