Deer Park (post office) adopted in the 15th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1917, as identified in the Postmasters Survey, 1905, and as labelled on BC map 1EM, 1915. Re-approved 6 October 1949 on Columbia River Basin manuscript 15. Form of name changed to Deer Park (post office & steamer landing) 6 October 1955 on 82SW. Form of name changed to Deer Park (locality) 11 March 1971 on 82E/SE.

Deer Park Post Office was opened 1 June 1897; closed 30 September 1967. CPR Steamer service had been discontinued approx April 1954. According to BC Hydro publication "The New Outlook in The Arrow Lakes," June 1965, p.5, all property in Deer Park is being bought by the company, however 1969 air photos indicate that a small locality remains, after expansion of Arrow Lakes.

"In 1889 when G.M. Dawson published his geological survey of the Lower Arrow Lake district he noted: The most attractive and park-like portion of this country is commonly named the "Deer Park," and is frequented by great numbers of deer, when in winter their higher pastures in the mountains become covered with snow.
