Kitchener (Post Office) and McConnel (Railway Point) were adopted in this location 16 July 1948 on 82 F. Both names confirmed 6 December 1951 on Columbia River Basin manuscrupt 61. The two discrete names were combined as Kitchener (Community)-McConnel (Ry Pt) by Ottawa 14 January 1983 on 82F/1. Dual name was dismantled July 1993 by Ottawa; BOTH features are to be labelled on BC maps.

According to "This was the Kootenay" by Clara Graham, 1963, p. 267, this was formerly Russell Creek Station, changed by the CPR to Kitchener, after Lord Kitchener. Wrigleys Directory 1918 and 1919 identify the CPR station here as Cadorna; identified as McConnel in 1920 and subsequent editions (PABC)

After Horatio Herbert Kitchener (1850 - 1916), first Earl Kitchener of Khartoum and of Broome. British field marshall killed in action in World War I.
